Signs Your Pool Needs Professional Attention (Don’t Wait Until It’s Worse)
Almost every expensive pool repair we do started life as a cheap one someone hoped would go away. Pools warn you before they fail — in colour, sound, level and feel — and reading the warnings early is the difference between a service call and a crisis. The signs, sorted by urgency:
Act now (today or this week)
- Pump dead, grinding or tripping the breaker — electrical, and the pool declines fast without it
- Water turning green or badly cloudy, especially with guests due
- Rapid water loss — a leak wastes money hourly
- Anything electrical behaving oddly around the pool — switch off and call
Act soon (this month)
- A noisy pump still running, or air in the jets
- Slippery surfaces, recurring algae, or water that won’t hold clear
- Loose tiles, cracked coping, failed lights
- Chemistry you can’t keep balanced, or a persistent smell
Plan for (this season)
A pool that looks tired, aging equipment nearing its end, or a surface entering its final years — the planned renovations that cost far less than the emergencies they prevent. The thread through all three tiers: acting early is always the cheap version. A one-off survey or regular care catches most of this before it escalates.
Pools always warn before they fail — the only question is whether anyone’s listening early enough.
