Pool Light Not Working? Repair and Replacement in Bali

A pool light that has stopped working is easy to ignore — until guests arrive for a week of evening swims, or you notice water inside the lens. Underwater lighting is one of those pool systems that mixes two things that should never meet: electricity and water. That makes it both the repair owners most often postpone and the one they should never attempt themselves. Here is what goes wrong and how it gets fixed.

Why pool lights fail in Bali

  • Water in the housing. The lens gasket ages, hardens in the heat, and lets water seep in. Once the housing floods, the lamp fails — and a flooded fixture can trip your electrics.
  • Corrosion. Humidity and coastal salt air corrode contacts, niches and conduit fittings faster in Bali than in temperate climates.
  • Old halogen technology. Many villa pools still run original halogen lamps that burn hot, fail often, and cost more to run than modern LED.
  • Voltage fluctuation. Parts of Bali see genuine voltage swings, which shorten the life of lamps and transformers.

The safety part — read this before touching anything

A pool light is an electrical fixture underwater. The rules are simple:

  • If the light is flickering, tripping the breaker, or has visible water inside the lens, switch the lighting circuit off and leave it off.
  • Never open, rewire or reseal a pool light yourself. This is not a lightbulb; it is a sealed underwater electrical unit that must be watertight and properly earthed.
  • A correctly installed system runs on safe low voltage with proper protection. If you do not know whether yours does, that alone is worth a professional check — older budget installations are sometimes wired in ways that would not pass any modern standard.

Repair or upgrade? The case for LED

If a light has failed, replacing like-for-like halogen is usually the wrong call. Modern LED pool lights use a fraction of the electricity, run cool, last for years instead of months, and give you colour options that transform how the pool looks at night — which matters if you rent the villa, because the pool at dusk is the photo every guest takes. The labour to replace the fitting is the same either way; the LED simply will not need doing again next year.

How professional replacement works

  • Inspection: we check the fixture, the gasket, the conduit and the transformer — failed lights are often a symptom of a perished seal or corroded conduit, not just a dead lamp
  • Clear quote before work, including whether the niche and cabling are reusable
  • Replacement with a quality sealed LED unit, new gasket, and testing of the circuit protection
  • Written report with photos to your WhatsApp — so a remote owner can see exactly what was done

One more reason not to ignore it

A flooded light niche can be a slow leak path out of the pool. If your light is dead and your water level keeps dropping, mention both when you contact us — they may be the same problem.
