Pool Re-Tiling in Bali: Cost, Process and What a Full Retile Involves
There is a moment every aging pool reaches where patching loose tiles stops making sense: failures are spreading, the finish is dated anyway, and each repair is a down payment on the next. That is the retile moment — a defined, satisfying project with a clear process and a knowable cost. Here is both.
What a full retile actually involves
- Strip and assess: old tiles and failed adhesive removed back to the shell — the stage where hidden problems (cracks, leak paths, tired render) surface while they are cheap to fix
- Substrate rebuild: re-render where needed, waterproofing renewed and flood-tested — the invisible half that decides year five
- The new finish: set full-bed with pool-grade adhesive and epoxy grout — ceramic, mosaic or stone per the finishes guide
- Cure, fill, startup chemistry — rushing this stage is how new tiles inherit old problems
What it costs, honestly
A full retile prices by area and finish tier: for a standard villa pool expect a project in the tens of millions of rupiah — ceramic at the accessible end, graded Sukabumi or mosaic meaningfully above it, with substrate repairs as the honest variable no quote can fix in advance (which is why ours itemise a provisional sum for them rather than pretending). Set against a new build, a retile delivers 80% of the visual transformation for a fraction of the outlay.
The one-window rule
An empty pool is expensive real estate — while it is drained, bundle the lighting upgrade, fitting renewals and any reshaping ambitions into the same window, timed to the pre-season calendar. The costly retile is the one done twice.
When repairs become a subscription, the retile is the cancellation.
