Timing Your Build: When to Start Construction to Swim by High Season
Every Bali owner wants the same two things from a build calendar: pool ready for high season, and construction that never meets the monsoon. Both are achievable — but only by working backwards from July, because the calendar’s two immovable facts (peak season and wet season) sit exactly where casual planning collides with them. The backwards maths:
The two seasons that rule the schedule
- High season (July–September): your revenue window if you rent, your hosting window if you do not — either way, the deadline
- Wet season (November–March): excavation in monsoon mud, concrete curing between downpours, delivery delays on flooded lanes — builds continue through it, but slower, riskier and grumpier; the stage-by-stage process explains which phases suffer most
The backwards calendar
A straightforward villa pool runs roughly three to four months door to door; complex sites longer. Working back from a June finish: construction should start by February–March, which means design, quoting and PBG permitting underway by December–January — in other words, the dreaming you are doing this quarter is the schedule. Start the conversation in April instead and you face the fork: rush (never), build through the wet, or swim next year. Add buffer for difficult sites, curves, and infinity systems — ambition costs weeks as well as rupiah.
The finish-line details owners forget
“Done” is not the last tile: commissioning, water chemistry establishment and surface curing want a couple of gentle weeks before heavy use — and if the pool is a rental asset, the photo shoot and listing update belong in the schedule too, because a pool finished in June that is not photographed until August missed half its point. Renovating rather than building? The same logic, compressed: the pre-season window is February to May.
July is fixed and the monsoon is fixed — everything else is planning.
