Preparing Your Villa for the Wet Season: The Whole-Property October Checklist
We have written before about what the wet season does to your pool; this is the companion piece for everything around it. From November to March, Bali’s rain audits your entire property — roof, drainage, timber, power, garden — and every year the audit results are decided in October, before a drop falls. The whole-villa checklist:
Water coming down
- Roof and gutters first: tiles, thatch, flashings checked; gutters and downpipes cleared and flushed — the highest-return hour of the entire year
- Seals and openings: door and window seals, skylights, and the wall penetrations that only leak sideways in storm wind
Water on the ground
- Site drainage walked and tested: channels clear, soakaways working, water demonstrably routed away from foundations, terraces and the pool
- Slope and garden management: trees trimmed before storms do it unsupervised, drains protected from the leaf-drop they are about to receive, erosion-prone banks addressed
Everything that hates damp
Timber sealed and oiled while it is dry enough to do so; outdoor furniture and cushions given a storage plan; humidity control readied indoors (this is the season it earns its keep); electrics inspected with RCDs tested, and surge protection in place for the lightning months. If the villa will sit vacant for stretches, layer on the vacant-property routine — the wet season is precisely when empty villas decline fastest.
The monsoon is the most predictable event on the island — being surprised by it is a choice.
