How to Vet a Pool Company in Bali: 8 Questions That Separate Professionals from Problems
Every villa owner in Bali eventually hires someone to look after the pool — often from another country, based on a website and a WhatsApp conversation. Some of those hires are excellent; some quietly collect a monthly fee for work that stops happening. The difference is usually discoverable in advance, if you ask the right questions.
The 8 questions
- 1. Do you send a report after each visit? The single best filter. No reporting means no accountability for a remote owner.
- 2. What exactly is included — and are chemicals in the fixed price? Vague inclusions are where cheap quotes hide.
- 3. Who actually comes to my villa? Trained technicians, or a rotating cast?
- 4. What happens when something breaks? You want diagnosis and a written quote — not silence or surprise bills.
- 5. How do you adjust for the seasons? Anyone who services January like July does not understand Bali pool care.
- 6. Can I speak to current foreign-owner clients?
- 7. How do we communicate, and in what language?
- 8. What does it cost — in writing? Professionals publish or commit to transparent pricing.
Red flags that end the conversation
No written anything, prices that change monthly, reluctance to name what a visit includes, and the classic: a pool that turns green on their watch explained away as bad luck. Bali’s climate is demanding but it is not mysterious — green pools under contract are a service failure.
