How to Read a Bali Pool Construction Quote (Line by Line)
You asked three builders for quotes and received three incomparable documents: one page versus eleven, “pool complete” versus forty line items, and a price spread wide enough to mean the quotes describe different projects — because they do. Reading a construction quotation is a skill, and for a remote owner it is the skill that protects the whole budget. Line by line:
The lines that must exist
- Structure, itemised: excavation, steel, concrete grade, shell dimensions — and waterproofing as its own named line with system and test method; its absence is the classic budget-build tell
- Finish, specified: the actual material and grade (“sukabumi premium grade” not “green stone”), coping, and grout type
- Equipment, branded: pump and filter make, model and size — “quality imported equipment” is not a specification, it is a hiding place
- Permits, plumbing test, first fill and commissioning — each either priced or explicitly excluded
Read the silences
Whatever a quote does not mention, assume is not included — then confirm. The expensive classics: site works and access, soil disposal, electrical supply to the equipment room, water for the first fill, and handover chemistry. Every silence becomes a mid-project “additional cost” conversation, which is precisely when you have no negotiating position left.
Compare structures, not totals
Put the quotes side by side line by line and the mystery price spread usually resolves into missing scope, thinner specification, or absent payment protections — at which point the cheapest quote is often revealed as the most expensive project. And the meta-signal matters most of all: a builder whose quotation is detailed, itemised and unafraid of questions is showing you exactly how they will build.
The quote is the audition — a builder who is vague on paper will be vague in concrete.
